I fell in love with SEO after attending a workshop in Vienna in 2018. At that time, I was working as a Communication Officer for a German consumer protection organization. After the workshop I started with my first online course to get as much knowledge as possible: “The SEO Master Checklist” by Jonas Weber.
In 2019 we planned a relaunch of our website (which is a really huge project) and I started to implement the lessons learned in our workflow. But, in my opinion, this first course only scratched the surface... so I got some literature and soaked up as much about SEO as possible (Google was really helpful at that time!).
We launched our website in February 2020 and only one month later, Corona came...
Overnight, we had to stay at home and weren’t allowed to leave our house, except for 1 hour a day.
At work, we were still working on the new website and so I tried to make the best out of the lockdown by investing in my personal development. One day, I saw Blue Array’s course in the Search Engine Journal Newsletter.
The SEO Manager Certification course gave me so many insights and deep dives (Strategy, North Star Goals, Technical and Local SEO, Backlinks etc.) to improve my SEO skills.
I tried to implement all the new skills I learned during this online course:
- we re-organized our site structure, analyzed our backlinks and implemented redirects.
- we also implemented a new workflow for our content creators (with keyword research) and focused on our (North Star) goals by using the roadmap provided in the course.
- we kept analyzing our site on a monthly basis to measure our outcome, identifying issues and opportunities.
- we finally started to follow all “SEO standards” (headers, meta description, title, correctly editing a sitemap and robots.txt, etc.)
By implementing the above, we succeeded to increase our organic traffic by 120%!
Everyone in my company was so excited that they decided to promote me as an in-house SEO Manager.
Today, I am responsible for our website and provide my colleagues with the knowledge I gained. I regularly give in-house workshops in SEO and help them with our website as the main contact.
It is really great to see all the efforts made by everyone in the company.
