English teacher successfully transitions to SEO after being certified from the Blue Array Academy

Sevilay Selecki - Junior Technical SEO Specialist at Onely

It all started with a dream and zero SEO experience.

I'm a graduate of English Language Teaching and had been working as an English Teacher for over 10 years.

As I decided to move to another country in 2019, I started to make a plan and searched for job opportunities. After a long market search, I came up with the conclusion that teaching wouldn't pay as much as I desired. Plus, job-seeking websites were full of offers called "SEO". Back then, I had almost no idea what an SEO was and what they were actually doing. So I got really intrigued and started to search what all the fuss was about considering this job. Seeing the big gap in the market for this field, I knew what I had to do.

My overall dream was to change my career path and be a part of the future. I can't say it was easy, I had so many sleepless and stressful nights but one thing I knew was that I wanted to do it, and it was nobody but me who could make it happen. This also meant that I had to start from the bottom of the career ladder which I didn't mind. So apart from having my internship, I knew that I had to go the extra mile to expand my knowledge in SEO, and as fast as possible, as I did not have prior experience.

Since I had no access to bootcamps around where I lived, I had to go for online courses.

That's when the SEO Manager Certification course by Blue Array coincidentally became temporarily available for free at the peak of the pandemic (thanks a million for that gesture guys); I was all over the moon.

I devoted my time and full focus every day to this course. It was so well-organized, so beginner-friendly and so purely yet sophistically explained. What I really liked about the course was the real-life examples rather than hypothetical situations so I could make sense of what is going on out in the wild. This course was a great support to my internship and I got promoted earlier than planned!

I started "completely" from ZERO (literally from how the internet actually works...), devoted my time and energy, and came to the point of being a Junior Technical SEO Specialist at Onely.

I'm so proud of where I came to be just after one and a half years. And I'd like to thank the Blue Array Team for being a precious part of my journey! Thank you all!!

We’ve asked Sevilay…

  • How long did it take you to complete the course?

I took me about 1.5 months to complete the course (but I dedicated around 1.5-2h every day)

  • Which lessons have you found particularly useful?

Technical Audit modules and the sample Excel sheets for reporting.

  • How would you summarise your experience with the Blue Array Academy?

“I've taken so many different courses along the way but never have I ever seen such an in-depth course that covers behind the scenes of how the SEO world really works.”
